A ceramic vase that binds the space together

The first time I met Mr. Tanaka was at a solo exhibition held in Tenjin, Fukuoka. Among the rows of plates and cups, there are several vases with a dignified atmosphere. I remember my eyes glued to them.

I don't know much about flowers, but I only occasionally buy seasonal flowers from a nearby flower shop. Even I can understand that "Ah, if there is one such vase in the house, the room will be much tighter." The furniture and home appliances are mixed together, and it feels like it's cleverly bundling the sloppiness of the space. A glass vase probably has the power to blend in with the space, while a ceramic vase has the power to bind the space together.

All of the vases that Mr. Tanaka makes are basically one-of-a-kind. Once you have roughly decided on the image, all you have to do is move your hands. No two vases have exactly the same design, even if they have a similar atmosphere.

When I asked him, "How do you decide on the design?", he told me that he values ​​the "discomfort" that he suddenly feels while moving his hands. By trying to get rid of that sense of incongruity, and sometimes trying to make use of it, they get closer to a convincing image. Writers are amazing.
